What do Harry Potter and an Earthquake have to do with each other?

July 29, 2008

Well there was an earthquake here in LA today.  Kinda Crazy — I’ve experienced one before, but it was very short and not very powerful — this one seemed like it lasted a minute and the entire building was shaking.  It was pretty scary at first, but everyone was ok so no worries!  Watch these two videos from a bike shop in San Demas..

And what does that have to do with Harry Potter?  Nothing except that the trailer came out today too!! AHHHHH I’ve already watched three times

Holy Hairspray…

July 24, 2008

There has been a lot of BWAY talk on this blog lately.  But guess what I’m allowed to blog about whatever I want! ha.  So Lots of BWAY news to update you on…

First if you didn’t already hear Diana DeGarmo is going to be in Godspell! So exciting, loved her on the show, and I’m sure she will be great — I believe she is the first AI contestant to open a new show on bway.  Scratch that didn’t Constantine open Jaques…alive and living in Paris whatever?  Someone help!

HOLY HAIRSPRAY they are making a sequel.  Ahhhh we’ll see about that.

Annnnd in sad news, MTV is remaking the Rocky Horror Picture Show.  Could be amazing, could be horrific…lets just hope for the best eh?

I saw Mamma Mia tonight…I think its the first time people actually laughed AT a performance in a movie (aka Peirce Brosnan, what were you thinking.)  Choreography was AWFUL.  But I LOVED Amanda Seyfried, Julie Waters, and Colin Firth..he is just the best thing ever.  It was pretty fun to watch if you come in with low expectations, you might be surprised. :)

Gossip Girl New Ads

July 23, 2008

Well, we know that Gossip Girl likes edgy advertising, hence the “OMFG” promos for the second half of last season:

null

Well the new line of ads are pretty spectacular themselves, “The racy ads co-opt language from the very criticism of the show for being too, well, racy.”

This gem is a quote from the Boston Herald about the show!
“Other such lovey-dovey moments (on a couch, in the sack or apparently skinny-dipping) are accompanied by headlines like “A Nasty Piece of Work” and “Mind-Blowingly Inappropriate.”  That latter phrase was borrowed from the Parents Television Council, which has blasted the series’ salacious content since its premiere.  “I think it reeks of desperation, if they have to position themselves as so edgy and so controversial that they’ve been called out by us,” said Melissa Henson, PTC director of communications.”

The rest of the article explains the purpose of the ads:

“CW marketing boss Rick Haskins said the advertising just aims to get noticed. “What we’re trying to do is communicate with the audience in a way that they like and can appreciate,” he said. “This sort of campaign resonates with someone who likes ‘Gossip Girl’” – specifically, women ages 18 to 34. The objective was finding “well-written headlines that are provocative and would catch our viewers’ attention,” said Haskins, “and, in a tongue-in-cheek way, capture what the show is about.”

SEXY!! I LIKE it!

Ben Folds — New Album and Tour!!

July 21, 2008

WOOOO get excited.  Ben Folds is releasing a new album and continuing to go on tour.  AHHHH

Here is his blog

Ben Folds to Release New Record, Way To Normal, September 30, 2008

LONG AWAITED FOLLOW UP TO SONGS FOR SILVERMAN FEATURES RAUCOUS TRACKS, TRADEMARK HUMOR

Epic Records is proud to announce the release of the much-anticipated new album from Ben Folds, WAY TO NORMAL, on September 30, 2008. The album, Folds’ third as a solo artist since the break up of the Ben Folds Five in 2000, was mostly recorded at his studio in Nashville and produced by Dennis Herring (Elvis Costello, Modest Mouse, The Hives). Featuring Folds on vocals and piano, Way to Normal also features long-time bassist Jared Reynolds and drummer Sam Smith as well as a guest vocal from indie pop heroine Regina Spektor on the album’s first single, “You Don’t Know Me.”

Way to Normal is an exuberant, raucous, and sometimes profane mix of sure-fire crowd-pleasers (“Hiroshima,” “Bitch Went Nuts,” and the frenetically fuzzed-out “Dr. Yang”), cheerful snark-fests (“The Frown Song,” “Brainwascht”), and thoughtful, moving ballads (“Cologne,” “Kylie From Connecticut”) that Folds wrote at the end of 2007 following the finalization of a two-year divorce.

But it should not be assumed that Way to Normal is Folds’ version of Marvin Gaye’s Here My Dear or Bob Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks (though Folds says that in the early stages of recording he came close to calling the album “Blood on the Keyboard”).

“The songs are not topical,” Folds says. “I was not interested in making a record about the D-word. I got all that stuff out of my system on the last record [2005's pensive Songs for Silverman], which was deliberately stoic. This new album is really about me being free, which is why it feels cathartic and expressive. It’s about me coming back to being myself.” (Hence the title.) “I came out of the courthouse, kissed the ground, and walked straight into the studio. I felt like a bottle of champagne that had been shaken for 18 months and popped open in the studio. That’s why this record has so much energy.”

Folds has been going pretty much non-stop since the 2001 release of his debut solo album Rockin’ the Suburbs. In short order, Folds has released a live album (2002’s aptly titled Ben Folds Live) and a pioneering series of three Internet-only digital EPs: Speed Graphic, Sunny 16, and Super D in 2003-2004; co-wrote and produced William Shatner’s 2004 solo album Has Been; released Songs for Silverman (which featured the Adult Top 40 hit “Landed”); contributed three original songs to the soundtrack for the 2006 film Over the Hedge; and produced a forthcoming solo album by Dresden Dolls frontwoman Amanda Palmer.

In 2006, Folds released Supersunnyspeedgraphic, The LP – a compilation of tracks from the Internet-only EP’s and B-sides, including an inspired cover of Dr. Dre’s “Bitches Ain’t Shit.” Along the way, there have been numerous tours, including a few with The Bens, a “supergroup” Folds formed with fellow singer-songwriters Ben Kweller and Ben Lee in 2003, as well tours with Rufus Wainwright and Guster in 2004, The Fray in 2005, and John Mayer in 2007. A classically trained percussionist whose musical chops could not be denied, Ben Folds also performs with orchestas, including a stint with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra in Perth, which led to his dvd “Ben Folds and WASO: Live at Perth” as well as Baltimore, Boston Pops for their season opener in 2007 and a stint of residencies with all five major Australian symphonies in 2006: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide which set a number of ticket sales records for the esteemed Australian orchestras.  In 2008, Folds will perform with the Nashville Symphony, opening their 2008-2009 season (September 7, 2008) and will also perform with the local symphonies in Philadelphia, Ft. Wayne, IN and Louisville, KY.

Ben Folds has been performing at many summer festivals this year, and will continue to tour worldwide in support of Way To Normal throughout the fall and into 2009.

Friday Night Light Benches Two Players.

July 8, 2008

Well if you weren’t already aware our beloved Friday Night Lights WAS picked up next season…so why the RIP sign?  Well turns out Smash and Jason won’t be a part of that next season. Well at least as regulars.  *Pause for crying and sighing*.  Smash is one of my favorite characters and the show will most def. miss him.  Clearly we knew after this season he would be leaving to go to college but I dunno I didn’t think he would be downgraded to just a recurring star.  Jason will be too busy taking care of his pregnant girlfriend waitress.

Goodbye Smash and Street.  We will miss you.  Read more at Ausiellos new dwellings Entertainment Weekly

Look what I bought!!

July 7, 2008

Thats right readers — I got a shiny brand new MacBook (pause for applause and jealous stares).  I am so excited to be apart of the Mac Family hahah that LB already knows and loves.  This means great things for you readers, seeing that this is my first laptop, that means I can LIVEBLOG outside of my bedroom!!  No more writing down notes for this girl.  To say the least, I am super excited about my new computer and come this fall TV season, I’ll be ready.

This post just won the award for the cheesiest most stupid post ever.  But I don’t care!!! :)

More Harry Potter.

July 3, 2008

So LB is right, we both LOVE HP. And I did make a teeshirt with my roommate for the last book. It said “Watch out for Nargles” and hers said “I like to Parseltongue” bahaha. But LB failed to mentioned she dressed up as a slutty Hermione for Halloween. SO BAH.

More HP Goodness. Per Perez Hilton (who got it from The Mirror), Daniel Radcliff said there is gonna be sex and drugs in the next movie!! WOOOOO who else is excited!?! (well references to it but who cares!?)

“There is a fair amount of sexual energy and there are some drug parallels. We have a couple of what David Yates, the director calls our ‘Trainspotting moments’.”

NICE!! I just want to see Ron and Hermione go at it in the 7th movie. I think that will be the most important day of filming they ever have. true story. Read the whole article HERE

HPHBP (or Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince)!!!

July 3, 2008

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Though we haven’t posted on this (I dont’ think), Kristin and I are HUGE Harry Potter Fans.  And i do mean HUGE.  We cried when Dumbledore died, we cried at the end of the last book, Kristin waited in line with a custom made T-shirt to get the last book (hehe, I did NOT do that), and we both belong to about 5 Facebook groups on the subject, including “If Voldemort had gotten laid, none of this shit would have happened.” and “”NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!”: Mrs. Weasley Appreciation Group.”  so obviously, I had to post this article from USA Today on the making of the newest Harry Potter movie – Be sure to look at the photo gallery!!

Recent Quotes from Heidi . . . blech!

July 1, 2008

 Heidi Montag Singing

Ok, I’m sorry, I cant even stomach this to write a full post.  Here are some quotes from ABC News from a recent article on Speidi:

“I don’t even want to talk about that,” Montag says. “There were rumors about a sex tape, but I had nothing to do with that. God knows the truth in all of this, and at the end of the day, that is the only thing that matters. Jesus was persecuted, and I’m going to get persecuted, ya know? But it doesn’t matter to me.”

Jesus?  Must be Heidi’s homeboy.

“Little coverage in celebrity magazines, which seem to chronicle every movement of this reality troupe, is given to Montag’s and Pratt’s Christianity. Montag identifies herself as “kind of non-denominational Baptist” and hopes to release a Christian album one day. Both she and Pratt read the Bible conscientiously. Montag even planned on devoting her life to God as a missionary in Africa.”
“”I have been the most religious person since I was 2 years old. I always felt this crazy connection to God,” says Montag.”

“This August, she and Pratt are headed to Africa to “feed children and help build things.”

uhhhhh ok, at a loss for words.

“Montag likes to think she and the Jonas Brothers are part of a new wave of positive role models. “As a parent, I would not want my daughter looking up to someone throwing money away, on drugs or coming out of rehab,” she says.”

Ok, so the Jonas Brothers preach abstinence, and Heidi is preaching . . . what?  Trashy clothes and bad singing?  I am confused and I think i must walk away from this post now.  Heidi officially makes my brain stop working.
