So, I know there were a lot of people who were iffy about this episode, but I enjoyed it. Unfortunately I watched a few days ago now and I didn’t take notes, so this recap will be a bit shorter then last week.The episode starts out Titanic style and we see some deep sea people finding the wreckage from Oceanic flight 815 — weird thing is, it looks like the entire plane is down there. Thru-out the episode we get to meet the rest of the people on the freighter ship. The guy who was behind the find815.com website, a guy who can talk to the dead who is crazy, and anthrolopoligist named Charlotte, and a pilot who was supposed to be the pilot for flight 815. There plane goes haywire and they all parachute onto the island — but the chopper is ok. Jack and Kate find out that the newbies are there to get Ben. BUT WHY hmm. My favorite moment of the night is when Locke shows everyone the bullet wound that he sustained from Ben — and the only reason he survived, is because it went right thru him, and if he had a KIDNEY there then he would be dead. CRAZY.Sorry such a short recap… LB can you help out with this one?
LB Notes, 2/13/08 (as I’m watching this on TiVo):When the guy jumps out (is pushed out) of the helicopter, he is afraid of landing on the island. He hears someone (Jack) running toward him in the bushes and pulls out a GUN, hides it in his pants, then asks if the guy is Jack, which he is. WEIRD!”Daniel Faraday” is weird. And stupid. Shows off his gun accidentally. Definately iffy about him.Locke’s group is Sawyer, Hugo, Rousseau, Ben, Alex, Carl, Claire, and the married couple, with some randoms. (hahah nice Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now reference Sawyer – He calls Locke “Kurtz.” My high school English teacher would be so proud right now.) Locke makes them go toward the cabin, says that Walt told him to… Meaning Walt, the kid???Juliet and Sayid discuss why Ben would have said the people coming will hurt them. She has two bright suggestions: 1) he is a liar or 2) they mean to do harm. Awesome. Followed by a discussion of guns.Jack, “Dan,” and Kate happen upon a crate of stuff from the chopper. Dan doesn’t have a good explanation of why it is there, he is a BAD liar and clearly nervous. Jack pulls out a gas mask. Anyone else remembering how the Dharma Initiative died? Jack confronts him on the gun. Dan finally admits that rescuing Jack isn’t his primary objective, but gets interrupted by the beeping phone.Locke tells Sawyer that he saw Walt in the cabin, but taller. Then Locke tells Sawyer that Ben shot him and left him for dead, and Walt helped him. Sawyer is disbelieving, but Locke shows him the healing wound. Hence the kidney comments.The phone is still beeping as Dan looks for “Miles.” they find him on the rocky part of the beach, possibly dead. Or not, since he draws a gun on Jack when he goes to check. Dan tries to calm everyone down and Kate takes his gun. Miles asks about Naomi, accuses Kate of killing her. Oh, crap!Flashback of Miles outside a house, in a car, with the Flight 815 news on the radio. He is kinda nervous, but goes and knocks on the door. He is talking with an older lady. Insists on $200 cash up front, because her grandson was murdered. He pulls out a vacuum? And tells her that no matter what she hears not to come up. He is all twitchy. Then he starts talking to the grandson, asks him to tell him where it is. Something falls. He moves a bookcase and finds a stash of money and what i think is coke (why in a yellow bag? it looks like saffron!). He goes downstairs and tells the grandma that the ghost is gone and he is at peace. Strangely enough he wont look at her, lie much? Then he gives her some money back. Back on the island, he insists on seeing Naomi’s body. Apparently, when she said “Tell my sister I love her” that was code for “these psychos have a gun to my head and I am about to die.” Seeing as he can speak to the dead, he insists on seeing her body.Ben baits Carl about Alex. Sawyer diffuses the situation. Ben asks why Sawyer left Kate. When he doesn’t answer, Ben tries to play him about Kate and Jack, apparently forgetting that his hands are tied. I want to believe that Ben knows something more and that maybe he could be good, but this crap makes me want to do what Sawyer does, which is kick the crap out of him. Sawyer and Locke argue over why Ben is still alive, Sawyer is betting on the fact that Ben already knows how to “get” them, and makes Locke take Ben’s rope.Miles is murmuring over Naomi’s body, and Dan is talking crazy about light. Kate tries to talk the mental Dan into putting away his gun and Jack interrupts and tells her to let it play out. Then winks very unsubtly. Miles knows that they didn’t kill Naomi. “Charlotte” beeps on the phone they find out she’s close. Jack tells them that their friends have guns in the forest and that they should put down their guns. Miles thinks this is bull, and so do I…but apparently Miles and I are wrong, because Sayid and Juliet shoot at Miles’s feet! haha.In the dessert. A woman with an English accent reads about flight 815 going down in a french newspaper, Tunisia? Shes an archaeologist? A local wont let her in the dig, but she bribes him. They have a polar bear skeleton. In the dessert. Awesome, kinda like having one on a tropical island. And next to the skeleton is a piece of metal with a Dharma symbol on it. Or a collar. Charlotte is excited. And now she is hanging upside down off a cliff on the island. She pulls the cord and falls into the lake below. Good thing it was deep enough. She is all excited again, and turns around and comes face to face with Locke.Sayid is marching Miles No Last Name and Dan Faraday somewhere. Miles is hostile, Dan is like a freakin kid. He jabbers on about being a physicist until Miles threatens to hurt him. Sayid notes that the world thinks they are dead, but Miles doesn’t seem surprised to see them.Charlotte tries the friendly approach at getting answers. Ben notes her gun. Charlotte is the first person to mention the freighter. Shes a better liar, but she doth protest too much. Locke tells her that she’s coming with them and that they do not want to be found.Sayid has the phone and they realize that Charlotte is running. They are trying to be all sneaky as she gets closer, but Dan the ‘tard starts yelling her name. Does he want to be killed? Haha its the dog, Vincent. They realize that Locke has Charlotte.In the Bahamas, an old guy watches a toy plane sink to the bottom of a fish tank as the TV says that they are releasing traumatic pics of Oceanic flight 815 on the bottom of the ocean. He starts watching the TV. It kinda cuts out, and comes back in on the decaying body of the pilot, with a voice over saying they cannot hope to recover the bodies. The old guy gets a weird look on his face when he sees the pilot’s hands. He calls the hotline with information – that is not the pilot. When he insists, they ask how he would know. He replies that he was supposed to be the pilot that day. In island time, the old guy comes out of the bushes, kinda battered. He crawls up a hill and comes face to face with a cow. Pulls out his phone, which is broken, and a flare gun.Locke and company see the flare. Charlotte wants to go see who it is, and a few of the crew chime in. Locke insists that she is lying, that they are not there to rescue the islanders. Oooh Charlotte doesn’t like that accusation. She tells Locke off and starts to go to her team member, but oops Ben shoots her. He’s a bit trigger happy like that. just like Sawyer is punch-happy, cause that’s what he does to Ben. Interesting. Charlotte has on Kevlar. Now why would she do that?Jack and crew find “Frank.” He says the chopper got struck by lightening, but he put her down, down the hill. The islanders are VERY happy to see it.Photos of the team. Possibly Naomi is saying that she thinks they are the wrong people “for a mission like this.” They don’t have military experience etc. And it is Naomi, and she is supposed to protect them. Oooh the creepy man who stalked Hurley in the nut house seems to be in charge. Naomi is still resisting using “A head case, a ghost buster, an anthropologist, and a drunk,” i.e. Dan, Miles, Charlotte and Frank. Haha I like how she makes “Anthropologist” sound like an insult. She gives out the “what if” of what if they find survivors from 815. Whaa?? he assures her that there are no survivors. Kind like he KNOWS, maybe because he tried to make it so? He creeps me the F out! She insists that there might be survivors. he tells her not to ask questions and do what she was hired for, that all the team members were hired for a specific purpose. yeah he really scares me. He says it all lies on her to get them in, out and keeping them alive. Oops, he didn’t mention keeping herself alive. and on to a shot of her dead body. Kate and Dan are bringing it to the chopper. Sayid says the chopper is in working order. Miles asks for the phone back, but Jack wants to know what they are doing there first. He gives it up on the condition that Miles will tell them after he makes a phone call. he dials and tells Regina to get McKascel? McKaskin? Regina politely says he cant come to the phone right now, haha like he’s in the bathroom or something. Miles is not happy to hear this, and says for Mac to call back when he can. They argue about bringing Naomi’s body back, and Frank says they cant, too much weight. Juliet is patching up his head, and he asks her name. When she replies, he knows she was not on the plane. He ever so kindly introduces Miles to Juliet and says that she was not on the plane. Miles freaks a little, runs toward Juliet yelling, “Where is he?!?” Jack gets him to back off. He is all riled up and tells them why they are there: “We are here for Benjamin Linus.” Ugh, no one wants Ben really, he is a big old smart ass. Why do they want Ben? They have a picture of Ben, presumably on the mainland.Cut to Ben pleading with Sawyer for his life. Right, he tried to kill Charlotte. Locke apologizes and assures her that he doesn’t want her dead, she wouldn’t be any good to him then. Comforting. Sawyer still has a gun on Ben. Sawyer does the old I-told-you-so thing, and he and Locke agree that the Ben “mess” should be cleaned up, and that Locke will do it. Rousseau is supposed to take Alex away, Claire gets a bit upset about the killing, and in the slight confusion, Ben tries to talk his way out. Says he has information John needs, answers. John asks what the monster is. Ben doesn’t know, HA guess he doesn’t have answers! Locke says goodbye and is about to blow Ben’s brains out, but Ben yells that Charlotte’s last name is Lewis. Huh, now that i think about it, she was pretty unconcerned that they were going to kill Ben. But she is now concerned that she’s been outed. He knows all about her history, oh and the team that is now on the island. He tells John that he was right, the people are a threat (uh, to Ben!) and if John shoots him, he will never know how great a threat they were, because Ben knows what they want: Ben. Charlotte is PISSED that he told. Locke asks how Ben knows this, and Ben replies that he has a man on their boat. The End!Tomorrow: We will find out who else is in the Oceanic 6. I’m with Kristin, this was a GOOD episode!
